We had the pleasure of collaborating with Limepress, a bold name in the comic book world, on a visually rich and cinematic project through our Schotter Illustration Studio.
Limepress’s latest release is an unauthorized comic book adaptation of the iconic 1989 film Kickboxer—a cult classic known for its emotional intensity and unforgettable visuals. Our task was to bring a powerful moment from the film to life: Jean-Claude Van Damme’s character exploring a mythical temple in Thailand, steeped in wonder and quiet reverence.
The illustration captures a sweeping, atmospheric scene centered around a colossal, otherworldly Buddha statue. Van Damme’s figure is depicted small in scale, emphasizing the spiritual magnitude and emotional depth of the moment. The artwork balances nostalgia with imaginative storytelling, creating a scene that feels both grounded in film and lifted into fantasy.
What set this project apart was the freedom to transcend realism. We weren’t confined to referencing real statues or existing architecture. Instead, we were encouraged to explore freely—to dream big, scale high, and craft a space that feels timeless, sacred, and visually grand.
Working with Limepress was a truly collaborative process. They brought a clear creative vision, and we brought it to life through visual storytelling, atmosphere, and artistic detail. It’s the kind of partnership we value—one built on shared imagination and mutual respect for the craft.
